Is it possible?

Yes, it is quite possible. While it may sound quite flattering but if you do certain things right by following the steps and tips given below, your dream can come true.

Best Ways to Get Noticed by Recruitment Consultants

Here are a few ways you can get yourself headhunted. After reading this you may also like to read “How to Impress Recruitment Consultant”

1. Build and promote yourself as a Brand

You don’t have to be a sales and marketing professional to be able to do it. It is all about being at the right time and the right place to be noticed by the right person.

Simply try to find out the events relating to your domain and also the industry. For example, if you are an HR professional, then join in the official as well as in the personal capacity the associations / bodies which meet regularly to share ideas. Similarly, let us say you are a senior or top level professional, then you should be visible at the meetings / seminars / conferences organised by the local as well as the national chambers of commerce. Then there are trade fairs and exhibitions.

But remember it should not be mere publicity and no real delivery. Like a good reliable product there is dependence and trust build around it. Similarly, you should be good in your line of business, having more than required level of knowledge, competence and skill sets. Otherwise, whole effort shall be washed down.

2. Create your digital presence and make yourself visible to the recruiters

The modern world is increasingly dependent the internet. Almost for everything we are used to work online. Perhaps the modern recruiters have almost forgotten the traditional process of sifting through the heaps of job applications and resumes in the physical form. Today the head hunter would log on to his account on one of the job portals, punch in a few key words, specify a few parameters and voila there is an exact ( or near match) of resumes along with the number – say “2023 resumes matching your search”.

Alternatively, if it is a big search firm with a strong IT infrastructure then the search can take place on the internal data bank of the Recruitment Firm.

Then there is now a serious role being played by social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. in connecting the Job Seeker and the employers.

This has a lot of hidden but important messages for you

First, you should have a strong digital presence if you want to be contacted first by the head hunters for the best employment opportunities.

Secondly, build your profile and resume with the right key words so that it can be found immediately. Post them on reputed Job Portals. Yes it may take more time than usual time to not only post your CV but also to fill in other sections, check or un-check other boxes. This will not only deposit your CV in the data base but also ccategorizeit and link it with the right tags. These links and tags are useful in letting the recruiters find you when they search for the profiles for the given mandate from their client.

Thirdly, make sure that you have your profile on LinkedIn in a professional way and is regularly updated too. Don’t forget mention your responsibilities, skills, important projects you have worked on along with the proper references and recommendations from the people who matter.

Last but not least, your profile should be complete, easy to read and well presented.

Why recruiters prefer online search?

You may ask, why the recruiters look for the profiles on the internet. The answer is simple, the combination of internet and computers have made the task of searching from the database of thousands ( if not millions) of CVs in a matter of seconds only.

What gives me the strength and knowledge to write this article?

I have been actively involved in Recruitments, Head hunting, talent search for almost 2 decades now. I have been meeting hundreds of candidates every year and sharing notes with the officers and executives of the recruitment department of my corporate clients. Over the period, I have come to understand the reasons as to why a set of candidates get noticed by the recruiters faster than others.

Therefore, get up, re read this article a few times and come back to it frequently if you want that coveted job. Let neither laziness, shame (self respect) nor overconfidence come in your way.

Remember a good career is one of the most important things in life.

How to get self confidence instantly for job interview

You may be the best suited person for that job. But when you face the interview the tables turn against you. Why? The answer lies within you. It is because you tend to lose Self Confidence to talk confidently during the job interview or the important meeting. Due to this you find it difficult to present your grand credentials.

How to get self confidence instantly for job interview

Self Confidence is the state of mind. The good news is that now you can train your mind to instantly give that much needed Self Confidence and almost instantly.

While there are many methods, processes and techniques to increase the self confidence, here are a few killing tips which can help you self confidence on demand

You may like to watch this short video first and then read the article –

1. Re-live your past achievements

Think about some of the difficult or challenging situations you faced in the past and came out a successful person. Was it clearing the entrance exam of your college or achieving high grades in your graduation or scoring a distinction in Maths in high school, especially when you always found this subject so difficult.

If you are already employed then perhaps clearing the tough interview in the face of stiff completion was no mean achievement.

Make a list of 5 such achievements. Now sit aside quietly and close your eyes. Take a deep breath, recall those moments when you got the news of your achievement. Try to remember how you felt at that time, re-live every moment through your five senses, recreate the same body language, breathing pattern, bring that confident attitude and smile back. Stay with each of these experiences for 3 to 5 minutes at least.

2. Correct your body language

Try to recall in your mind the job interview or a meeting you had last and it was not a good performance by you. Pay attention to the body language you had at that time. Perhaps you were sitting hunched in the chair. May be you were shaking one of your legs or hands were clasped tightly together.

As it outside, same will be inside. Such or a similar pose can worsen the level of confidence or rather creating more room for nervousness. But the good news is you can correct it almost instantly. The trick is to fake it to make it. Practice walking, standing and sitting in one of those “power poses” which can raise your self confidence level and intensify it. In addition, mentally visualize yourself taller and confident. This would also help make you be stress free.

In brief, it would mean keeping your spine straight, hands and feet uncrossed and you are doing deep breathing. This would keep you relaxed yet confident throughout the job interview or the meeting.

3. Dress appropriately and Groom yourself.

Remember I told you “Fake it till you make it”?

Depending on the corporate culture, industry standards, norms of the place you live and the weather – be dressed for the interview appropriately. For example, suppose you are a MBA and going for an interview for an important position of a Banker  in a global bank. In such as case, a white or blue shirt, two piece suit with a matching tie and black shoes is almost mandatory.

On the contrary, if you are going for an interview as a fashion designer for a label which is known for jeans and casual wear, you would be out of place and a misfit if you were to go in a banker’s dress code.

Along with clothes, how you comb your hair, have you shaved, applied a nice after shave or a deodorant will add to your self confidence immensely and you are likely to make a favorable first impression on your interviewers.

So go ahead combine good dressing, grooming with other techniques and see your self confidence level rocketing.

4.  Do Affirmations

Your mind will carry out the commands obediently if given through proper techniques. Doing Affirmations repeatedly is one of such proven techniques. Click here How to get self confidence instantly for job interview.

  2. Take a few deep breaths – inhale and exhale
  3. Relax yourself
  4. Imagine a scene with emotions and feelings that your confidence level is going up, up and up
  5. Stay with that feeling for a few moments

Come out more confident

How to be a Great Boss at Workplace

How to be a Great Boss at WorkplaceIf you have spent a few years in your career then you must be leading a team now. If your management lets you lead a team much earlier then you must be exceptionally well qualified or proven yourself well in your profession. Congratulations in either case.

Many challenges to being a Good Boss

Leading a team is a sure sign of your professional worth and its recognition by the top management of the organisation you work for. At the same time, it a serious responsibility too in more than one ways.

Firstly, you are now answerable for not only your own performance but also for your team members. Secondly you shall be looked up by your juniors for guidance and support all the time. Thirdly, you shall have to step in to resolve conflicts, interpersonal communication problems and so on.  And many more such issues and challenges would always be there.

It is not easy to be a Successful Boss

It is still more challenging to be a good boss who is loved by his team yet who can ensure that the team delivers month after month, quarter after quarter and year after year.

Defining a Great Boss at Office

For the purpose of this article let us agree to one meaning of the word Great Boss – a leader or a manager at office who is effective and productive as well as he is liked by his team.

How to be a Great Boss at Workplace

It is quite acceptable that each one of you will have a unique set of unique set of office circumstances, work conditions and targets to achieve. Yet the human behaviour

Effective bosses and managers tend to:

1. Be a master of the professional domain

This is the primary requirement. If you want your seniors to depend on you and your team of juniors to respect you then you have to have unquestionable authority on your subject. With top management’s confidence in your abilities you will draw power attached to the positions to wield authority over your juniors. Your subordinates will take you seriously and will neither challenge your position nor your authority because of your thorough knowledge of the subject.

In fact, they will often come to you respectfully to seek your knowledge, suggestions and help in letting them discharge their duties successfully.

2. Size up all your team members

Suppose you are the captain of a cricket or a soccer team. To win the game you must know each and every player well, his / her strengths and weaknesses, their temperaments, qualifications, experience and skills. This information will come in very handy in allocation of work and responsibilities. You will be successful in delegating the work and getting the right results too.

3. Empower your team members, delegate and assign clear responsibilities

These are three pillars of successfully getting productive results from any team under a boss or a leader or a manager. You can’t expect results if one of these three are missing. In the absence of clear division of work and the targets, the juniors will not know what to do and what not to do. Suppose they have been given targets but the respective roles are not defined then there are bound to be clashes and no co-ordination.

Similarly, if the roles and responsibilities are there but they are not empowered to take decisions or allowed to draw upon the resources, there shall be frustration and lack of motivation. May be some of them will come to you too often for permissions.

Therefore, empower them as per their capabilities (rule no. 2)

4. Provide strong leadership and a clear vision

The captain must steer the ship to its destination. If leader doesn’t share with its team where the company is headed or what are the department’s targets, how can the team mates know? You will need to give in clear terms the deliverables within the given time frame and what are the resources available to them.

Above all the communication has to be uniform, clear and crisp.

5. Be Dedicated but also do work life balance

I have some great performers who are always passionate about their work; they live, eat and dream their work and strive to do the best work possible. They also drive their teams ruthlessly towards the achievement of targets. Yet at the same time, they have no personal lives outside of work and they expect their juniors to follow suit.

This is certainly not the work style of the good leader. A great boss will strive to strike a work life balance for himself and his team as well. Such a manager understands the need to balance family and work or play and work. He will set a good example of how to do that for his team mates.

6. Strike a balance between human values and human performance

The great bosses understand that there must be a fine balance between the company or department’s targets on one hand and a good working culture which respects the individuality and human values on the other hand. The clients or the stakeholders can be extremely demanding but the needs and the individuality of your employees can’t be compromised.

Though a tough task, but if you are successful at it continuously then you will be a adorable leader and a great executive of your company.

7. Be an effective decision maker and not micromanage

As per rule no. 3, hopefully you have done a good delegation of job. Now step back. Let them do their work. Give them space and don’t continuously breathe down their necks. Resist the temptation of spoon feeding your juniors or micromanaging.

The good bosses only keep themselves available for decision making, problem solving rather than interfere in the day-to-day and minute-to-minute workflow or processes.

8. Lead by example

Simply put you have to be honest. Mean what you say and do what you say. There’s nothing worse than a boss who says one thing and does another. You will be known and respected for keeping your words. As a manager you must earn the trust and loyalty of your team of employees from the core of their hearts.

9. Be flexible and receptive to new ideas

Intelligence or creativity is not the owned property of a select few or the seniors only. A good idea or suggestion can come from anybody. Be open to such ideas and suggestions. Be flexible to try them out. It might just turn out to be one of the game changers. It is your quality of receptivity and flexibility which will encourage your employees to think and feel motivated to come and share them with you.

An idea can be worth a million dollars and it may not cost you anything.

11 Important Tips for CV Writing

11 Important Tips for CV WritingWhen you decide to change your job or look for a job after completing your education, the most important tool you would require is a good CV or a resume’. If you have never written a resume before or are going to write your resume after a long time then it could be quite a daunting task.

You may struggle about how to begin the CV, what kind of font and different headings to use.

Fortunately, the help is at hand. We have listed down 11 Important Tips for CV Writing to help you craft out a good CV.

Why a Good CV? Why not just a CV?

Before proceeding further, you may ask “…..why I have to put so much time in developing a CV? I’ll put down my name, qualifications, experience and contact details. This shall do the job.”

You could be quite right if you are the only candidate for the position you are applying. There is competition everywhere and a tough competition. Under normal circumstances, your CV shall be read by a recruitment consultant whose primary job is elimination of not matching CVs out of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of CVs. After this the CV has to go through the HR Department, the concerned Department to which you are applying and then the chief of the division or the head of the organization.

In brief, you need a very good CV because:

  • A recruiter receives countless CVs.
  • So don’t let your CV get lost.
  • A good CV gets noticed and it may get you an Interview and the Job.

11 Important Tips for CV Writing

Tip # 1 Make a Smart Presentation

If you plan to give the printout, make sure that your CV is neat and well structured. Therefore, choose a right resume format which goes well with your line of profession, qualifications, level of experience and seniority. Highlight the important things which you would like the recruitment manager to notice instantly. The person who screens the CVs should find it appealing.

Your CV should be laser-printed in black ink using a plain typeface, on good quality A4 white paper.

Remember it is your gate pass to the interview.

Tip # 2 Make your Resume in Appealing Layout and Style

Choose an attractive style, yet be simple: avoid boxes, graphics, funny borders, shades etc.
The information in your CV should be carefully and clearly laid out – in separate compartments under proper headings and subheadings.

The layout or your CV should neither be too cramped nor there should be large empty spaces.

Use simple fonts and size should be 9.5 to 11. Use bold and italic typefaces for headings and important information only

You may like to put your name in the footer area so that it appears on each sheet.

Tip # 3 Target Your CV to the Job Description

A good CV must be tailored to each job’s specifications.

Include in your CV the kind of information that matches the Job Description so that the recruiters find you interesting as a candidate.

This means that ideally you should customize your resume. Read carefully the job advertisement, note down the Job Descriptions and the Candidate’s skill sets mentioned. Accordingly edit your resume. Special attention needs to be paid to your skills and experience to make them as matching as possible to the job description in the job ad that specifically highlights the experience you have that is relevant to the job you are applying for.

Writing a custom resume is definitely going to take more time than just sending your standard resume, But, it’s worth the effort, especially if the job you are applying is your dream job and / or you are sure that you meet all their specifications.

Tip # 4 Provide a Career Summary

Some employers may spend as little as 30 to 60 seconds on a CV before deciding if they want to read it thoroughly or they should toss it into a waste paper basket. Hence the Career Summary is very important in each resume.

To quickly grab the attention of the prospective employer or the recruitment consultant, the career summary should appear on the first page and preferably in the middle. It should smartly say all about you. This enables the recruiters to decide if they want to call you for an interview.

Tip # 5 Format Your Work Experience Professionally

Sell your professional skills, experience earned and benefits of hiring you.

Simply by prioritizing your information so that what is most important catches attention first. Put it in the chronological order.

Tip # 6 Keep it Short

  • Keep your CV as concise as possible.
  • Leave the details to be discussed in the interview.
  • Try that it doesn’t go beyond 2 – 3 pages.
  • Do ensure that the content are clear, structured, concise and relevant.
  • Use bullet points rather than full sentences to help reduce word usage.

Tip # 7 Use Short and Crisp Sentences

A recruiter is in a hurry, thus long sentences are difficult to understand.

Tip # 8 Avoid unnecessary personal information

The recruiters are not interested to know the names of your family members.Similarly, they are least interested to know about the number of children you have.

Tip # 9 Check Spellings and Grammar

Typo errors, spelling mistakes and bad grammar not only put off the recruiter but your CV may sometimes fail to convey your USP which could have otherwise got you the job. Such errors can also be very embarrassing during the interviews, especially if the interviewer wants to have some fun at your cost.

It is important that once you have finished writing your CV, check and double check your CV and ensure that there are no such mistakes.

Tip # 10 Covering letter

A good covering letter should always accompany your CV.
