This is the fundamental career related suggestion. Do not make the mistake of taking phone interview lightly. If you are talking to interviewer with half seriousness only of if you are not well prepared or are lying while talking be assured that the interviewer at the other end of telephone line is experienced enough to know about your state of mind. The interview will rightfully conclude that you are not serious about your career move.

Before the Phone Interview Tips

1. Be Prepared Mentally and Physically

This means that you should be in room or in a space where there is no disturbance and external noise to distract you. Also this would help your interviewer or interviewers to hear you clearly and receive your response in the best possible manner.

It would be good idea to select a proper chair and table rather than couch or floor or the edge of the bed. The idea is that you sit straight, have your pad and pen along with your laptop in front of you.
This would let you present yourself as a good professional and let you concentrate fully on the job interview.

Overall, make sure that you are going to be comfortable for 10 or 15 or maybe 30 to 45 minutes.

2. Ensure that your hardware is in top shape

There can be a variety of points which the interviewer can raise on different subject matters about your career, education and skills. You may keep in mind that the number of questions and the diversity of subjects or topics to be discussed may increase in case there are more than one interviewers online and / or it is an in depth interview ( rather than a preliminary interview) scheduled with you.

Therefore, you need to ensure that:

  • You have a good quality phone. If it is a cordless phone or a mobile phone then the battery should be fully charged. This will save you from the embarrassment of running for the charger when you are in the middle of the interview, discussing a crucial point going in your favour.
  • Your laptop is fully charged or desktop is in ready condition, with the company profile, your LinkedIn profile on the browser tabs.
  • There is a notebook or pad and a pen

3. Research the company and study the job description

In fact this exercise should be done much before the interview. You should study thoroughly study the company website for its core business, the top management, manufacturing facilities, range of products or services. Go deeper and beyond the website to know about the division for which you are being considered. Do this along with the job description you have received from the company or the recruitment consultant. It would also be a good idea to know about the main competitors of the company.

4. Keep your main points and notes in front of you

Keep a copy of your resume for reference in front of you. In case you are asked ‘walk me through your resume’, your resume copy will come very handy. Also the notes made by you while researching about the company and the main points of the job profile should be noted down neatly and kept on the table.

5. Prepare Answers To Few Questions Which Can Be Asked

Depending on your area of expertise, years of experience and position applied for, you can anticipate a few questions. Therefore, you should pre rehearse well the answers to these questions also.

In this regard, we have already uploaded many blog posts full of questions & answers and videos. Some of the links are given below:

6. Prepare a few questions to be asked by you

Towards the end of the interview, in case you are given an opportunity to ask questions then you need not frame your questions hurriedly there and then. Think of a few important questions to be asked by you after the interview and jot them down. You may also take this opportunity to get any clarification for yourself – which you think is not provided to you by your recruitment consultant.

However, during the first round it is not advisable to ask about Salary, Benefits, Leaves allowed etc. Of course, these are also important in your career but wait for appropriate opportunity in the subsequent rounds.

1. Greetings and Introductions

Just like the face to face regular job interview, there will be introductions. Make sure that you greet each and every interviewer by his or her proper name. Therefore, please do make conscious efforts to note down the name, title and if possible the department of the interviewer. This will be helpful during and after the interview.

2. Tone and clarity of your voice

You will appreciate that during the telephonic interview your voice has an additional role. It is to convey your body language, personality and emotions to the interviewer. The interviewer has to depend on tone, pitch and volume of your voice to learn about your levels of confidence, interest and involvement.

Therefore, if you think you need to do something about your voice then should try to practice a few times before the day of interview. You should sound enthusiastic and keen for the job being discussed.

3. Keep your accent clear and speak in one language only

We live in a global village. The probabilities are always very high that the person interviewing you is from some other cultural background. Hence speak very clearly and don’t let your native pronunciation play with your accent.

In any case it is advisable to speak clearly and audibly.

4. Focus on the interview only

Do not be tempted to chat with a friend on face book or whatsapp – just because you are invisible to the interviewer. Be warned, this could spoil your interview. Also keep taking the notes of important points.

After the Phone Interview Tips

Send a note of thanks to the interviewers. Don’t have their contact details? Well remember that you had taken down their names and titles during the introductions? (During the interview – Tip #1).

Armed with these useful tips, I am sure you will be able to crack your job interview better. Best of Luck for your Career Success.

• Why do you want to become an Internal Auditor?

Understanding the Question:

It is also a good question for the interviewer to learn how much planning and thought actually went into your career selection. Are you there by random acts and/or chance? Or is this part of a well-designed plan?

An example of how to best answer this question for entry level candidates:

Model Answer to Question:

There were many influences that went into my decision to select Finance and Accounts as the career field. One of my early mentors is my Father, who works with a well known Bank in the country and he encouraged me to explore opportunities in this field. Later my elder brother qualified as a Chartered Accountant and is now working with a large FMCG company. They have pointed me in the right direction to explore the possibilities. But it was the combination of my career research along with my subjects in School and College which helped to solidify my decision.

As you may notice that I have scored more than 90% marks overall in school, as well as in Economics and Accounting during my graduation studies.

Thus I am well prepared for a successful career in Finance and Accounts

Final Tip

Model Answer to Question:

Having graduated from college last year, I haven’t faced much difficulty in my first job.

This gave me an opportunity to study the accounting processes of my employers. Fortunately, I found an area which could be improved upon. This was the accounting process of vendor payment.

Thus I created a system on processing payments for a faster processing and quicker payment. Earlier it used to go through 6 persons and would take 8 to 10 days. After implementing the system recommended by me, it is now done by 3 persons and in 3 days only.

This not only resulted in the savings for the company in terms of time and cost but earned the praise of the vendors. The vendors are now very happy to work for us.

Overall it has also created a better image of my company in the market.

Final Tip

Be clear, quantitative and give specific example! Be careful not to tell lies or take all the credit yourself.

According to a survey, only a third of new businesses survive 10 years or more? So what should be done to make your small business thrive and not just survive? There have to be some laws of success which are universally applicable. Fortunately, it is not a secret anymore. Most successful entrepreneurs follow similar patterns and share comparable basic characteristics. Volumes can be written on the subject the secret of success in business, but for the most part, they boil down to the same major points.

Here is what we found out as the most common and practical ways to make your small business thrive and how to become successful entrepreneur.

Idea #1: Pick a different business

Everyone is interested to know and jump into “the next big thing”. The next big thing could be making mobile apps or starting an e commerce venture to deliver groceries. But don’t you think that many people are working on the same / similar ideas at the same time. That could be HARD WORK and TOUGH COMPETITION. Don’t do it!

You don’t have to come up with the new thing or employ very innovative technology. Just do the old thing in a slightly better or simpler way than everyone else. It could even be too boring or hardly exciting for others but if you have faith in its commercial viability and think that you would enjoy it then go ahead!

Take the case of now so famous Baba Ramdev of India, who started the concept of teaching free yoga to the masses through yoga camps. His success took him to many cities and towns of India and later to many countries.

Due to his interest in Agriculture and Ayurveda (Indian medicine system) he started Patanjali Ayurved. This has been a phenomenal success in the field of FMCG products. Even the business of well established giants such as Colgate, ITC, Godrej Consumer Products and and Dabur have been impacted

As per Wikipedia, “As of early-March 2016, the company’s turnover has already crossed Rs. 45 Billion (US$670 million) and is cruising at a monthly rate of about Rs. 5 billion (US$74 million) to Rs. 5.5 billion (US$82 million)”

It is noteworthy that he is a yogi and today there are shops and stores at every one or two kilometres where you can find his products.

He offers better prices, newer products if not better quality standards and higher touch to his customers. If you too follow this idea Customers will switch to you.

Idea #2: Get 24 x 7  Publicity and Earn Trust

The technology savvy world we are living in and with the business practices you don’t have to going up and down the road looking for customers.

You may tell people about your products or services through blog or social media. Let the whole world be your territory than just the 10 or 50 km. radius of your physical existence.

Start blogging about what really are the benefits of your products and services. Then you can put posts on social media sites Face book, Google Plus, Digg, Pininterest, Reddit, and StumbleUpon, and sometimes the posts would go viral, getting you instant and free publicity.

Idea #3: Make Money While You Sleep

This is a further extension of the previous point. Simply put build a system or a machine capable of running on its own. Obviously if you work alone, there is only a fixed output which you can give even if you work 12 hours a day, seven days a week, for a stretch of one year without taking a single day off.

Rather devote your focus and energy on build money machines. Take your unique expertise and transform it into a system that runs without you to have a multiplying effect. There are many ways you can do it: Franchising, Blogging, Affiliate Marketing, Online selling, hire people, investing in stocks, investing in property etc.

Idea #4: Eliminate the Middleman

If not always, it pays many a times to remove the middleman from the delivery chain. How you do it and what exactly you need to do, will depend on your industry and your business model. Whatever may be your strategy, the advantages are clear – it leads to reduction of costs, saving of time and better customer contact.

In this global information era, the “middleman” as it is facing extinction. A small business owner, you could gain substantial information about your customers just by taking away the role from someone else. This will definitely help you achieve a higher level of customer satisfaction by being your own middleman.

Idea #5: Always say YES to new business idea!

This is one of the most profitable ideas in the field of business. In fact, this should be the personal habit of every entrepreneur and business person who wants to progress.

Many years ago when I was heading a Head Hunting firm, a client asked us to do Market Research Surveys for them. I did not commit myself and discussed with a friend of mine who was already a successful business person. He immediately advised me to say YES to this and any other related assignment from any organisation. Encouraged by my friend’s advice, I submitted the proposal. Not only we got the business but we earned well. Soon this was added to the list of services and the returns have always turned out to be better than other services being offered by my firm. Imagine, if I had said NO!

Idea #7: Focus on Customer Service

Each customer, new and old, is a real human being who likes personal touch, promptness and basic courtesy while dealing for a product or service with you. Especially when you are a small business, there’s no excuse for having an average or casual customer service.

Your best references for new customers are your existing or old customers who are satisfied with your Customer Service. The best way to touch your old customers is to provide prompt service when they need it.

Customer service is the most reliable touch point to keep selling to them.

To Summarize

Succeeding as an entrepreneur is challenging as demands hard work, persistence, passion, perseverance, positive thinking and never say die attitude. Of course, cultivating these attributes requires an inherent motivation and some tips to get started. While we have shared some basic yet valuable tips above, it is up to you now to implement them successfully.

Of course, the fruits of success are not only sweet but they tend to set successful entrepreneurs apart.

Affirmations about Self Esteem and Self ConfidenceWelcome to Affirmations to boost Self Esteem and Self Confidence

The most important ingredient for success in life is a great self image which is made of high self esteem and good confidence.

Self esteem is a feeling evoking good emotion about self along with a positive self image. A person with high self confidence is successful in almost every field. All of us were born with very high self confidence and self esteem when we are young. However, as we grow up, we are ‘disciplined’ and ‘corrected’ which more negative than positive; more criticizing than constructive. Unknowingly, parents often berate their own child / children. Psychologists that low self esteem may be responsible for the individual inviting misery, failure and fears in his life.

The difference between low self esteem and high self esteem is the difference between failure and success, between tears and laughter. Of course, your ability or inability to hold your own self image high or low determines your place and status in life.

The constant criticism of the child results in damaged self worth.

How to build Self Esteem

You must have noticed very often that successful people life have a very high self esteem – irrespective of their age, sex, level of education or nationality. They think very highly about themselves and regard themselves of high importance. Without doubt, there is a high degree of co-relation between success in various aspects of life with high self esteem and great self confidence. Whereas, unsuccessful individuals generally have a very low self image. It’s a simple rule. If you don’t love yourself, nobody will.

Thus if you do not respect yourself, don’t expect others to do so. Greater self esteem and high self confidence are the keys to a better life. Psychologists say that it takes at least seven positive statements to cancel out one negative statement.

Fortunately, you can restore your damaged self esteem and low self confidence by using these affirmations. Repeating these self esteem affirmations in front of a mirror, especially when looking into your own eyes, is a very good way of restoring your self esteem.

Remember, as you love and respect yourself more and more, your self esteem will grow higher and higher. You have to love yourself first. Only then will the world follow you. A regular and sincere practice of these affirmations will enable you to walk with your head held high.

For best results make a set of 5 to 7 self esteem and self confidence affirmations when repeating. Do this for at least three to six months to see the results. These affirmations can also be treated as self worth affirmations.

The interviewer is actually asking the candidate to self asses his own ability to be a successful teacher.

Model Answer
My views are based on my personal experience as a teacher and my observation of other successful teachers. In my view, a good teacher should have the qualities of patience, good communication, flexibility, and self-discipline to be successful. Of course, the teacher must be thorough in his subject.

Teaching can be demanding and sometimes frustrating, but it is extremely rewarding when his students excel. The proof comes in the form of the demand for studying from that particular teacher and his increasing popularity.

Teachers have to consider state/local testing objectives when creating lesson plans while making sure that students are able to master the subject material beyond what is going to be on a test. Students also have different methods of learning and a teacher must be able to adapt their lessons to ensure that all students are engaged and able to learn the material.”

Useful Tip
Show to the interview panel that you possess necessary qualities to deliver in case the job is offered and you have been a successful teacher in the past also.

Question L1: Why are you interested in becoming the principal of this school?

Alternate Question : Why do you want to teach at this school?

Understanding the Question and how to answer it
This question is another often asked interview question to the teaching staff. Hence it is important to prepare a good answer and practice your answers well! Give specific reasons why you’re interested in the school by drawing on the information you gathered during your research.

The interviewer is confirming if you are actually interested in the position or if you are just mailing resumes and showing up for interviews.

Model Answer
I’ve done thorough research on schools within this part of the city and I am very impressed with what your school has to offer.

Your school as best qualified teachers and your students have been consistently winning awards and honors both in academics and sports. I gather that the teaching staff here is one of the best in the area and is very involved.

Thirdly, your school has an optimum teacher-to-student ratio that I think really allows for personalized education. Smaller classroom sizes, like the ones you maintain here, will make it possible for me to ensure one-on-one attention for each child they deserve.

Fourthly, your after-school personality development program is exciting to me and should I get selected here, I would like to get involved in that as well.

Important Tip
Giving specific points in your answer to the interview panel shows enthusiasm, initiative and dedication, as all qualities that are valuable!

Question D1: What is your philosophy of discipline?

Do you need Interview Coaching?
Get Full Details

Alternate Questions

• What frustrates you the most in the school environment?
• How do you handle classroom discipline?

Understanding the Question and how to answer it
The interviewers want to know that what is your approach with regards to the matter of discipline in the school. They would also like to know how you’ll behave or act when faced with a situation of indiscipline.

Model Answer
I feel that whatever a person does there is a reason behind it which makes that person to act or not act accordingly. Yes, to the outside world it may or may not be acceptable. Hence the solution lies in looking at the reason more and correcting it rather than dealing the act done by the student.

I get frustrated by the students who think they’re too smart and they do not attend all the classes. They float around and not focus on their studies. They also show their attitude to the teachers who play into that attitude.

My approach has been to give such students a little extra attention and encouragement. This is because such students need to feel that someone else believes in them. By bringing them under my observation and attention radar, I’ve seen some of the ‘rebel kids’ turn into students who are focused, driven and ready to perform well in their studies.

Important Tip
Discuss a situation a fairly common type of situation you experienced and then explain how you dealt with that challenge. You must focus on positive aspects of your style only. In case, you are still frustrated with a situation and haven’t figured out how to work around it yet, it is suggested that you do not use that example in your answer.

Questions T1 & T2: What is your Teaching Philosophy?

Do you need Interview Coaching?
Get Full Details

Alternate Questions
• Share with us your philosophy of teaching and learning
• As a teacher, what is your teaching philosophy?
• What is your style of teaching?

Understanding the Question and how to answer it
The selection panel would like to look beyond your knowledge and skills about the subject matter you are to teach, but also your ability to teach well. They want to make sure that your students really learn from you.

This requires you to tell the interviewer about your teaching style or method. You have to tell them that how you will run your class and how you will teach your students.

Model Answer
I am an English teacher, and I believe in raising the level of my students and preparing them to be more successful. It is our ideas, communication and thinking that determine how well we grow in life.

You may recognize that quality of thinking and language are connected to each other.

The better people can articulate, think and express themselves, the more successful in life they are.

Therefore I believe that a significant part of my role as an English teacher is to help people become better by mastering the English language.

I try to create interest of the class in the subject through multiple methods of teaching such as visual, auditory and kinesthetic tools. Besides following the book and syllabus, I often conduct events like quiz, elocution and group discussions to facilitate better language learning.

Important Tip
Be sure that you really do believe in your own philosophy and could stand by it, no matter what.

Question C1: As the Principal, how would you create a culture of academic excellence in a school?
Alternate Question: What can you bring to our school that makes you unique?
Understanding the Question and how to answer it
This question is quite straight forward, asking you to talk about your unique qualities which are relevant to the position applied and would be useful to the school in general.

Talk about your passions and qualities and how you have actually used your ideas to bring value to the teaching and learning in the past.

Model Answer
I love nature and would like to introduce an activity to explore the nature beyond the borders of the school and home. In my current school, I started an after-school explorer’s club. We would go on nature hikes, visit science parks and invite local scientists and biologists to come speak to us about what they’re working on and their domain.

The response has been overwhelming. Some old students who have passed out, still come up to me and tell me how much they loved our club and how it helped inspire them to pursue careers in various streams of science. I would be very keen in continuing the legacy of the explorer’s club in this school also.

Important Tip
This is a perfect opportunity for you to share your unique qualities with the interview panel. Talk about activities you’ve organized which were found to be very useful. Mention about some practice you started and how they created memorable learning experiences.

Question B1: What are your greatest strengths?

Alternate Questions:
•  What is your greatest strength?
•  As a teacher, what are your strengths?

Understanding the Question and how to answer it
When hiring, interviewers regularly ask a question about candidate’s strengths and weaknesses, for any profession. As regards to answering this question in an interview for the position of a teacher, your answer should show how you specifically are qualified for the teaching position.

If you are unable to find the answer to this question, ask your friends and family if they can help you identify your primary qualities as a teacher.

Also think, if you don’t have any relevant strengths, why would someone hire you?

Model Answer
My friends, colleagues and students have a common opinion about me that I am an exceptional communicator. I am usually asked to compère at school functions and formal ceremonies. For many plays and events, I have been the anchor person. I have taken formal training to be a good public speaker,

I have also written a few plays for the school which have been highly appreciated.

Since I am an English teacher, I use my oral and verbal communication skills to teach my subject better to the class.

Important Tip
Don’t think of it as an opportunity to brag about yourself. You are supposed to objectively explain how you are a good fit for the position of teacher in the particular school.

Tips for preparing and appearing at the job interview

In addition to practicing for the commonly asked interview questions, a few more suggestions should be kept in mind by the shortlisted candidates appearing for the Interview Process. These are:

Interview Tip #1  Reach before time

As a serious candidate you must reach well before time. Make sure to reach about 30 minutes before the scheduled time of interview. Increase this cushion period if the traffic in your city is unpredictably heavy or you are going to a far off location and you are unsure of the location or if there are a few formalities to be completed before you may appear before the interview panel or a combination of these.

Interview Tip #2  Carry all Supportive Documents

In case you have been told then make sure to carry all the original documents for verification purpose as you may not be allowed to appear in the Interview.

In case this is not a requirement then it is still a good idea to carry good quality color photocopies of your degrees of graduation / post graduation, certificates of merit, recommendation letter, certification of participation in sports / extracurricular activities / voluntary work done etc.

Interview Tip #3  Be prepared to be there for 2 – 3 Hours

There could be a number of reasons which may require you to be present at interview venue for more than the actual interview time. For example, there could be certain formalities to be completed, or you may be required to wait for the results of first round and if selected there could be a second round soon after or simply the number of candidates present for the interview may make the scheduling go off track.

So carry some water or sandwiches or cookies – just in case.

Interview Tip #4  Be Natural, Calm and Composed

It is quite natural that you may be a bit nervous or anxious before or during the Interview questions answers session. But practice deep breathing, take control of your emotions, think positive to put your best foot forward.  Also do not memorize the answers as the interviewers can easily find out if you are speaking your or reciting answers read from a book or guide

Follow the above steps, prepare a good answer & say it in your own words. Good Luck!

How Safe is Your Job

How Safe is Your Job?It is never a pleasant feeling for any individual when he or she is given the pink slip. The word ‘dismissal’ is a dreaded one as it brings before eyes all the situations like loss of social status, financial hard times such as inability to pay rent, insurance, mortgage and insecurity about further career prospects.

But if you look at the whole process then the layoff or dismissal does not happen overnight nor does it happen without any reasons(s). Of course, we are not talking of exceptions here. So to avoid such a disaster happening to you or your near and dear one, would it not be nice to know that: How safe is your job? Are you at the risk of being fired?

Before proceeding to know about the indicators, let us briefly look at the type of factors which can influence the sacking of an employee or a group of employees. There can be basically three broad categories or a combination of them and these are:

I.  External Factors relating to Job Security

These are purely outside the control of your employers collectively or individually. These reasons could be economical, political, compliance or technology related. For example, if your company is in liquor business and a particular state government in your country decides to enforce total prohibition. Naturally the company will lose the sales in that state and this will force job cuts.

Recently, the authorities, India decided to seriously look into the ban of diesel vehicles to cut down on air pollution in New Delhi and surrounding area (NCR). If this concept gives beneficial results, then it may be introduced more enthusiastically and over a larger area. Thus it would not be long before the automobile industry decides to shut down the production of diesel engines in the country forcing some job cuts while some other may be shifted.

A third example is not so recent but is related to change of technology. Only a few years ago, pagers were very popular means of instant messaging until mobile phones became popular and affordable. Now the customer had a better choice of sending a text message or calling the other person. Suddenly no one wanted a pager. You can well imagine the reason that why all those working for pager companies lost their jobs.

II. Internal Factors influencing Security of Job

Continuing with our example of telecom industry, we all know about the high and low phases of BlackBerry Limited. There was a time when a BlackBerry mobile phone was considered a must for all business owners, entrepreneurs, CEO s, COO s and CTO s, whereas now it nowhere on the wish list of anyone. Without going into the reasons, it was quite clear that time ran out for BlackBerry. The company announced 4,500 job cuts and it would have reported a net operating loss of nearly $1 billion.

Similarly, there can be many more reasons such as cost cutting or relocation which may force a particular organisation to either close down completely or resort to mass lay off, forcing many individuals to jobless, at least for some time.

III. Individual related Factors indicating Job Security and Safety of Job

This is the most crucial and important group of factors which are largely well within the control of each person who is employed. The purpose of this article is to dwell on a few of important reasons as well as indicators which may lead to dismissal from the job. Also if checked well in time, it may not only save the person his job but he may impress his bosses and employers to have a good career.

1. Poor Performance

Compared to the previous year, you have a definite feeling that your output has gone down. It is not important that what are the reasons or circumstances responsible for this but in the eyes of the employer you have been less productive than the previous year(s).

Even if you are maintaining the same performance how do you expect receive more salary now? Would it not lead to increased cost to the company? In fact the ground reality is that someone junior than you may be more energetic and better performer than you and is willing to work for less!

Even average performers need to be contended. Just managing to meet the targets is no longer the guarantee to your job safety. To earn rewards and keep the job safe, an employee must be able to show incremental growth. While someone with annual performance of 6% to 8% may not get sacked, but he may fall behind in comparison to others who are performing better.

2. Lack of relevant technical skills

Technology is fast changing. New methods and technique are always evolving replacing the old methods. Whether you are in IT field or Machine Maintenance or Manufacturing or a Scientist, you have to remain informed of the new technology and techniques in your field. Depending on your field and expertise, perhaps once in a year or more frequently, a serious update is required to acquire new skills.

If you are not doing anything to learn seriously whether online or through class room training, then you should take it that soon someone better, smarter and more qualified than you is likely to replace you. Perhaps he will be less expensive and younger too. The message here is to constantly upskill yourself to stay relevant and useful for your employer.

3. Behavioral Issues

Interpersonal skills are important anywhere but are critical at the workplace.

Even if you score very high on performance, experience, academic and professional qualifications but have trouble getting along with your colleagues, seniors and juniors, your job is in danger. During downsizing exercise, when HR and Departmental Heads get together to make a list of people to be retrenched, they first want to get rid of difficult employees. Nobody minds a cheerful, obedient, friendly and cooperative person even if his performance or other parameters are just about OK but an employee with an attitude is first to be pointed out. Please see How to be a Great Boss at Workplace

If you don’t have a cordial relationship with your co-workers, mend the fences before it’s too late. Talk to your colleague with whom you have had unpleasant exchange of words. You might not enjoy the conversation, but this approach could help save your job. Also please see Soft Skills which can help you move ahead in career

Equally important is to be in the good books of the boss. Therefore, make a sincere effort to always have a great equation with your boss even if he is not Mr. Right always – because nobody is perfect in this world. If there is a misunderstanding immediately reach out and discuss the issue. Never discuss the prickly issues publicly or be ready to have a confrontation with your boss. Even if you are right, there is not likely to benefit you or the issue.

This is no way to suggest that you should be a “yes man” or a sycophant. Flattery will not take you very far. The other factors will count too.

4. Less important responsibilities

You have been with the current organisation for a reasonable period of time now and you are well qualified. However you notice that more important responsibilities are slipping out of your hands and being given to someone else. While it may make some people happy that they are less loaded with responsibilities and they have to work less now. But certainly it is not a good indicator as far the safety of job is concerned.

There is every reason for you to be concerned and take a corrective action to keep your career moving up. You may ask your boss for some challenging or volunteer to take up some additional duties. This will also act as a check that you are not being deliberately neglected.

More work coming your way is an indication that your company has faith in your abilities.

5. Limited talent or creativity

Gone are the days when one could get a job on the basis of his educational qualifications and stay secured in the job forever due to his honesty and loyalty. Now the viewpoints have changed. The current way to look at the usefulness of an employee is “How much creativity does he have to come up with unique or clever ideas, or develop smart ways to solve a problem?”

Well yes, there may be less need to be innovative on a production line job, while it would high in marketing or related jobs.

6. Below average pay rise
